ABOUT US

Vision and style have never been so clear.

Each frame has a story to tell

Made In Africa By Africans

We are Wazi, the first prescription eyewear brand designed, manufactured and distributed in Uganda. Wazi glasses are created by African artists, with a variety of face shapes in mind. They’re produced locally in Uganda and available through a wide range of physicians and distributors, meaning anyone can access a pair of glasses when they need them.

When we needed to purchase our first pair of prescription eyewear, we were surprised by how difficult it was to access prescription glasses in Uganda and across the continent. In 2016, we came together to find a way to bring high quality, locally made, fashion forward glasses to Africans across the world, and to reduce the stigma around eyecare health. Our mission is to improve education around and access to eye testing and treatment for all.Wazi means ‘clear’ in Kiswahili. Our vision is to make clarity of vision possible for everyone in Africa.

Wazi is Africa.
We create an authentic African solution to better eye health care through the production and manufacturing of high quality eye wear that exudes Afro-confidence.

Wazi is Comfort.
We design to ensure comfort, fit and style inspired by African culture, made by local African artisans. Our engineers ensure that every dimension is made to fit you just right!

Wazi is Bold.
We are the doers driving the New Bold Africa. We are not afraid to push the boundaries of design and quality. We learn everyday, and our journey is well documented. Everyday, we strive to be better, do better and push the limits.

Wazi is Socially Committed and Accountable.
We are part of the African eye health care revolution through improving eye health education and access in Africa. Part of the profits are used to create programs that improve education around and access.

Partner with us

Our Work with the Assistive Tech Impact Fund

In 2021, we partnered with the Assistive Technology Impact Fund (AT Impact Fund) to scale our work and impact across East Africa. The UK Aid Investment, through the AT2030 Program led by the Global Disability Innovation Hub invested in our vision to improve the efficiency of our production process and execute a partner-led distribution strategy. This investment, coupled with half a year of venture building support has enabled us to grow our catalog of designs, hence giving everyone the dignity of choice when it comes to eye glasses. Through this partnership, we target to reach more than 100,000 people in East Africa with high quality eyewear and highlight the creativity and ingenuity of over 120 African Artists.
