Vision and style have never been so clear.
Wazi Vision believes eyewear is more than a necessity; it’s a way to express yourself and boost confidence. As Africa’s leading eyewear brand, we design and craft our glasses in Kampala, Uganda, combining modern frames with African-inspired artistry.
Our mission is to make high-quality prescription glasses accessible in Uganda and beyond, while showcasing Ugandan craftsmanship. Each pair is designed by African artists for a comfortable fit, and through partnerships with hospitals, optical stores, and distributors, we help people see clearly and confidently.
At Wazi, we empower individuals, celebrate African creativity, and make a positive impact in communities—one pair of glasses at a time.
Our Story: The Vision Behind Wazi Vision
Wazi Vision was founded in 2016 by Brenda Katwesigye Baganzi and Geogette Ochieng Ndabukiye in Kampala, Uganda, with a bold mission: to make affordable, high-quality eyewear accessible to everyone. Moved by her own struggle to afford glasses even with insurance, Brenda set out to change the way eye care is delivered. Geogette, inspired by the same vision, joined her to co-create a brand built on purpose, innovation, and impact.
The name “Wazi” means “clear” in Kiswahili; a reflection of our commitment to clarity in both sight and mission. We design and manufacture eyewear that honors African craftsmanship, with frames tailored to fit a wide range of facial features. Our journey began with recycled plastic, and with the support of partners like ATImpact, we’ve built a cost-effective production line using sustainable materials like eco-friendly acetate, bamboo, and cow horn waste.
We work closely with hospitals, institutions, insurance companies, optical centers, and distributors to expand access to vision care across Uganda and East Africa. A portion of every sale goes toward community eye health education and outreach programs, ensuring that no one is left behind.
At Wazi Vision, we’re more than just eyewear. We’re a movement, empowering individuals, celebrating African creativity, and making a difference, one pair of glasses at a time.
Our Global Vision: Expanding Eyewear Access Worldwide
While our roots are firmly in Uganda, we envision a future where Wazi Vision is a globally recognized eyewear brand. Our products are already reaching international markets.
Through partnerships with global distributors and retailers, we aim to make Wazi Vision eyewear available in major markets across the world. Whether you’re in London, New York, Paris, or Cape Town, our African-inspired eyewear is available to consumers who value style, quality, and sustainability.

In 2021, we partnered with the Assistive Technology Impact Fund (AT Impact Fund) to scale our work and impact across East Africa. The UK Aid Investment, through the AT2030 Program led by the Global Disability Innovation Hub invested in our vision to improve the efficiency of our production process and execute a partner-led distribution strategy. This investment, coupled with half a year of venture building support has enabled us to grow our catalog of designs, hence giving everyone the dignity of choice when it comes to eye glasses. Through this partnership, we target to reach more than 100,000 people in East Africa with high quality eyewear and highlight the creativity and ingenuity of over 120 African Artists.
